Five weasels headed North with high hopes of bagging a big one. Weasels Larry and Charlie arrived Thursday afternoon with Weasels Gregg and Tom coming in Thursday night. Weasel Ryan arrived about noon Friday. Weather the entire 3 day weekend was expected to be windy and cold, but hopes were running high with about two inches of light snow on the ground. Things started out well with Gregg missing a little six pointer Friday morning, and Larry hitting a six pointer about 7:15 in the morning. After finding blood, we decided to hold off three hours before trailing it. Trailing was quite easy in the snow and Gregg and I found a bloody bed where it had laid down. However things got tough after we jumped it from the bed and we lost the blood trail and could not find the deer. IT appeared to have headed for the big marsh which was wet and impossible for us to walk through. Story of my life, another one for the wolves. We were all seeing bucks and Ryan did get a nice six pointer Sat. evening just before closing time. Tom saw about 4 bucks that afternoon, and I had a tremendous 8 pointer about sixty yards from me about 1:00. We closed out with just the one buck Ryan shot but were encouraged by the number of bucks sighted. Didn't really have time to do any socializing, got to the Creek for one beer Friday night before heading to County Line for supper. We were in bed Sat. night by 8:00. We really concentrated on hunting hard. Next trip rifle season i n about 10 days. We need a little more venison for the freezer.
