We had 6 weasels in camp this year for the start of the 2013 rifle hunt. Weasels Larry, Gregg, Joel, Ryan, Brennen and Mike braved a bitterly cold opening weekend. Saturday morning found the temperature hovering around 4 degrees and the wind howling around 25mph. The chill factor was -14 as we headed out in the morning. Despite the inclement weather, Gregg, Joel, and Mike each bagged a small buck by 10 am. This was the extent of our kills for the weekend, but nevertheless it resulted in a pretty good season. Compared to many camps in the area we did extremely well. As usual we had some very nice times with our friends from the north and neighboring camps. We had hardly settled in on Friday afternoon when Dan Johnson and a friend popped in. Within minutes after their arrival, Doug, Jordan and Josh from the old Greisch camp arrived. It was great to renew memories get caught up on the latest gossip and share anticipations for the morning hunt. We had a good visit with Gully, Terry and Troy while at the Creek. A visit to the Klatt Man Cave was fun and of course Gregg and I spent Monday night at the Klatt Lodge enjoying Monday night football. Gregg and I snuck in a visit with Gerry and Robin Denver Monday afternoon. On Tuesday before heading home, I was finally able to hook up with the Pearsons for a nice visit. We also had a nice visit with our neighbor across County W Phil Kluge and his brother. As I grow older, I find the socializing with old friends to be more meaningful than the hunt itself. I've established some great friendships over the years and have grown to cherish every minute of them. As I set my mouse trapline, and spread my mint soaked cotton balls throughout the cabin, I was already looking forward to next year. Life is great and even greater if you are a Weasel.
